Different Types of Portable Cranes

For heavy equipment, there are two main types of cranes: portable and stationery. These two groups can then be broken down into different subgroups such as hydraulic truck cranes and smart lifting devices.

This article only describes the portable cranes that are available. However, regardless of type, the main crane must have the boom mounted on one type of platform. Portable pick-up cranes, portable gantry cranes, and rough terrain cranes are mainly discussed.

We'll first cover truck-mounted cranes or portable pickups, which are perhaps the most famous. This engine consists of a typical crane mounted on a truck carrier. This is an excellent combination that allows for maximum mobility.

You don't need special equipment to move them from one place to another as they can drive themselves on highways. They are available in a wide variety of weights, from 15 to 1300 tonnes.

Although a typical gantry crane is stationary, there is a group of portable gantry cranes that travel on railroad tracks. They are usually mounted on a single support called a single beam or on a double beam called a double beam.

The gantry system used to support the frame uses a beam and wheel system that allows the engine to move on rails. They come in a variety of sizes and can be used for different applications.

Another popular example is the portable rough terrain crane. They typically use chassis mounted cranes that are designed for all-terrain. It uses four high performance tires and is primarily designed for operations where the machine has to travel off-road.
